Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Act

PUBLIC OFFICERS LOAN AND TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2025
The Minister, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4 of the Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Act, makes the following Regulations:
- These Regulations may be cited as the Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances (Amendment) Regulations, 2025.
- Regulation 3 of the Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Regulations, 2001 (S.I. 2001 No. 36), in these Regulations referred to as the principal Regulations, is amended by deleting paragraph (3) and substituting the following:
“(3) Subject to regulation 5, an officer specified in the Fourth Schedule, is eligible for a loan not exceeding
(a)
$25 000 for the purchase of an electric motor cycle;
(b)
$5 000 for the purchase of a motor cycle;
(c)
$1 000 for the purchase of an auto cycle; or
(d)
$500 for the purchase of a bicycle.”.
- Regulation 14 of the principal Regulations is deleted and the following is substituted:

“Commuted travelling allowance
- Notwithstanding regulation 13,
(a)
an officer specified in the Fifth Schedule is entitled to a commuted travelling allowance at the rate of
(i)
$1 072.26 per month with effect from 1st April, 2022;
(ii)
$1 104.43 per month with effect from 1st April, 2023; and
(iii) $1 137.56 per month with effect from 1st April, 2024;
(b)
an officer specified in the Sixth Schedule is entitled to a commuted travelling allowance at the rate
(i)
$670.16 per month with effect from 1st April, 2022;
(ii)
690.26 per month with effect from 1st April, 2023; and
(iii) 710.97 per month with effect from 1st April, 2024.”.
- The First Schedule to the principal Regulations is amended by inserting in the appropriate alphabetical order the following:
(a) in paragraph 1 under the heading “Agriculture”
“Pesticide Control Officer Quality Control Officer Quality Control Inspector Senior Supervisor”;
(b) in paragraph 3 under the heading “Attorney General”
“Senior Executive Officer”;

(c) in paragraph 5 by
(i)
deleting the heading “Audit Department” and substituting the heading “Auditor General”;
(ii)
inserting the following office in the appropriate alphabetical order:

(e)
in paragraph 16, by
(i)
deleting the heading “Drug Service” and substituting the heading “Barbados Drug Service”; and
(ii)
by inserting the following office in the appropriate alphabetical order:

(f) in paragraph 17, by
(i)
deleting the heading “Education” and substituting the heading “Education, Technological and Vocational Training”;
(ii)
inserting under the subheading “Technical” in the appropriate alphabetical order the following office:
“Curriculum Development/Liason Officer – Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology”;
(iii) deleting subparagraph (c);

(g) in paragraph 18 under subparagraph (b), by deleting the subheading “Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic” and substituting the following:

(h) in paragraph 22, by
(i)
deleting the heading “Energy and the Environment” and substituting the heading “Division of Energy and Telecommunications”; and
(ii)
inserting the following office in the appropriate alphabetical order:

- The principal Regulations are amended by deleting the Second Schedule and substituting therefor the Second Schedule in the Schedule to these Regulations.
- All loans issued and payments received in respect of section 3 of Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Regulations, 2001
(S.I. 2001 No. 36), for the period commencing from 1st April, 2022 to the commencement of these Regulations shall be deemed to have been lawfully and validly issued and collected.
- All travelling allowances paid and received in respect of the Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Regulations, 2001
(S.I. 2001 No. 36), for the period commencing 1st April, 2022 to the commencement of these Regulations shall be deemed to have been lawfully and validly issued and paid. - All allowances paid in respect of commuted allowance in respect of the Public Officers Loan and Travelling Allowances Regulations, 2001
(S.I. 2001 No. 36), for the period commencing 1st April, 2022 to the commencement of these Regulations shall be deemed to be lawfully issued and paid.
