An Act to amend the Caribbean Community (Movement of Skilled Nationals) Act, Cap. 186A.
[Commencement: 19th March, 2024] ENACTED by the Parliament of Barbados as follows:
CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (MOVEMENT OF SKILLED
NATIONALS) (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2024-11

Short title

  1. This Act may be cited as the Caribbean Community (Movement of Skilled Nationals) (Amendment) Act, 2024.

Amendment of section 2 of Cap. 186A

  1. Section 2(1) of the Caribbean Community (Movement of Skilled Nationals) Act, Cap. 186A, in this Act referred to as the principal Act, is amended by
    (a)
    deleting the definitions of “agricultural worker”, “household domestic” and “security guard”; and

(b)
inserting in the appropriate alphabetical order the following definitions:

“ “agricultural worker” means a person who engages in
(a) crop farm production; or
(b) livestock farm production; “crop farm production” includes growing trees or crops, harvesting
fields or trees and gathering fruits or plants;
“domestic work” includes

(a)
sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, washing, polishing items, taking care of linen, purchasing supplies, preparing food and serving meals for a household within a private residential home;

(b)
the provision of personal care and assistance to a person in a private residential household with his daily living activities where that person is in need of such care due to ageing, illness, injury or any other physical condition; and

(c) the provision of care and supervision of a child in a private residential home;
“domestic worker” means a person who is employed to engage to in domestic work;
“livestock farm production” includes
(a) the breeding and tending of animals; and
(b) aquaculture; “private security officer” means a person who provides services
(a)
for the protection of persons or property;

(b)
to prevent the destruction of property; or

(c)
to prevent the theft or unlawful taking of property.”.

Amendment of the First Schedule of Cap. 186A

  1. Paragraph 2 of Part B of the First Schedule is amended by deleting the words “household domestics and security guards” and substituting the words “domestic workers and private security officers”.

Amendment of Cap. 186A

  1. The principal Act is amended by deleting the words
    (a)
    “household domestic” wherever they appear and substituting the words “domestic worker”; and

(b)
“security guard” wherever they appear and substituting the words “private security officer”.
