A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS by section 29(1) of the Constitution of Barbados it is provided that whenever the office of Governor-General is vacant or the holder of the office is absent from Barbados or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of the office, those functions shall be performed:

  1. by any person for the time being designated by Her Majesty in that behalf who is in Barbados and able to perform those functions; or
  2. at any time when there is no person in Barbados so designated and able to perform those functions, by the holder of the office of Chief Justice; or
  3. at any time referred to in paragraph (b) when the office of Chief Justice is vacant or the holder thereof is absent from Barbados or is for any other reason unable to perform those functions, by the President of the Senate:

AND WHEREAS the Governor-General will be absent from her duties during the period 4th August, 2021 to 31st August, 2021:

AND WHEREAS I, The Very Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Douglas Gibson, have been designated by Her Majesty The Queen to perform the functions of the office of Governor-General:

NOW THEREFORE I do hereby publish, proclaim and make known that I have taken the necessary oaths and have assumed the full burden of administering the Government of Barbados and of doing and executing all things that belong to the office of Governor-General thereof during Her Majesty’s pleasure,

according to the tenor of the said Constitution of Barbados constituting the office of Governor-General and according to the laws for the time being in force within Barbados.

Given under my hand and the Public Seal of Barbados this 4th day of August, 2021 and in the seventieth year of Her Majesty’s Reign.
