VACANCY IN THE HIGH COURT
The Judicial Appointments Committee (the Committee) has been appointed to make recommendations to the Prime Minister in respect of persons to be appointed to the Supreme Court of Barbados for the purposes of Section 81 of the Constitution.
The Committee has been advised that two judicial vacancies exist in the High Court of Barbados. Accordingly, the Committee now invites applications for the Office of Judge of the High Court from suitably qualified persons. Preference will be accorded to applicants who have experience and expertise in family law, civil and commercial litigation.
A person is qualified for appointment as a Judge of the High Court if he or she —
(a) is qualified to practise as an attorney-at-law in Barbados and has practised as such in Barbados, a Commonwealth country or in a common law jurisdiction for not less than 10 years; or (b) is or has been a Judge of a court of unlimited jurisdiction in civil and criminal matters in a Commonwealth country or of a court having jurisdiction in appeals from such a court; or (c) is or has been a Judge of a court of unlimited jurisdiction in civil and criminal matters in a common law jurisdiction or of a court having jurisdiction in appeals from such a court.
