Islandwide Jurisdiction, Magistrate Elwood Watts
Section 7 subsections (1) and (2) of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, Cap.116A of the Laws of Barbados (“the Act”) provides as follows:
“7. (1) The Chief Justice may assign one or more magistrates to a district and may assign a magistrate to more than one district.
(2) Where more than one magistrate is assigned to a district each such magistrate shall exercise concurrent jurisdiction in that district with the other or others so assigned.”
- Accordingly, in the exercise of the powers vested in me under section 7 subsections (1) and (2) of the Act, I direct that, effective 22 February 2021 Magistrate Elwood Watts shall have and be vested with island wide jurisdiction.
